Types of dentures

We offer a variety of denture types so we can find a restoration that meets your unique needs.

How Dentures Work

A traditional denture is a removable appliance which replaces missing teeth. These restorations consist of a gum-colored acrylic base and artificial teeth, meticulously designed to mimic the appearance of a natural smile. Typically used for patients with extensive tooth loss, dentures come in several types, including:

Partial Dentures

A partial denture can replace multiple teeth, even if they are not in a row. In addition to the acrylic base, partials often have small metal wires which hook around nearby teeth for added support.

Full Dentures

Recommended for patients who are missing all the teeth in their upper or lower jaw, a full denture restores the entire arch. In the upper jaw, a full denture covers the soft palate as well as the gums, while in the lower jaw, the restoration is shaped similarly to a horseshoe.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Often referred to as overdentures, implant-supported dentures attach to small titanium posts which are surgically embedded into the jawbone. While they are more stable than removable dentures, implant-supported restorations require a longer treatment time and higher treatment cost.

Restoring Your Smile with Dentures

If you have experienced extensive tooth loss, Dr. Torrado, Attardi, or Shumova will first assess your general and oral health. We may also take x-rays or other scans to determine the strength of your jaw bone. Then, you can sit down with your dentist to discuss your concerns and preferences. Based on this initial consultation, your dentist can determine if dentures are the right tooth replacement solution for you and whether you qualify for the advanced stability offered by dental implants.

Dentures can allow you to eat a more nutritious diet and restore a youthful appearance to your face.

At Torrado Dental, all of our dentures are custom-made to closely resemble your natural teeth. Using impressions, we can craft dentures which fit comfortably and function properly. We also offer immediate dentures using the advanced AvaDent® digital system for patients who need extractions. AvaDent dentures can be placed in just two easy visits to our office.

The Benefits of Dentures

Replacing missing teeth not only improves the appearance of your smile. Dentures offer a range of benefits, including improved oral health. They allow you to enjoy a wider range of foods, especially whole fruits and vegetables, which can improve your overall nutrition and health. Dentures can also provide support for your facial muscles, returning a more youthful appearance to your face. Restorations supported by dental implants offer even more significant benefits, including increased stability and a more natural appearance. Implants even guard against the bone atrophy that occurs due to tooth loss.
