As a prosthodontist, Dr. Eduardo Torrado is highly trained and experienced in restoring oral function and aesthetics with advanced dental implant technology. Dr. Torrado places and restores dental implants at his Rochester, NY, office for patients who desire superior stability and functionality. Dental implants are titanium posts that replace missing tooth roots and provide the ultimate support for a denture, bridge, or crown. Implants are also the only restorative treatment that can prevent jawbone atrophy, a reaction that otherwise inevitably follows tooth loss.
Are Implants Right for You?
If you have had one or more teeth extracted or fall out, have ample jawbone tissue, and are a non-smoker, you are likely a dental implants candidate. With a single implant, we can restore a missing tooth with a crown. With just four to six implants, we can replace an entire row of missing teeth with a denture. If you have already suffered some bone loss, you may need a bone graft (a process of augmenting the jaw with donor tissue) or sinus lift (augmentation of the upper jaw to prevent implants from contacting the sinus membranes) to help restore your jawbone. If a bone graft or sinus lift is necessary, Dr. Torrado can refer you to a specialist for this portion of the procedure.
Dental implants are essentially prosthetic tooth roots.
Dental Implant Options
Dr. Torrado offers a variety of dental implant options to meet the unique needs of each of his patients. In addition to traditional implants, which require three to four months of healing time before they can support a restoration, he also offers immediate-load options such as All-on-4® implants, which are designed to support a full denture. He uses the ATLANTISTM system to create custom abutments that connect your restoration to the implants.

Dental Implant Placement Process
Dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw using advanced technology and surgical guides to ensure precision. After creating a flap in the gums, Dr. Torrado creates a hole in the jawbone. The implants are then inserted. If you receive traditional implants, a healing cap is attached before suturing the gums. It can take four to six months for your implants to fully fuse with your jawbone. This process is known as osseointegration. Dr. Torrado may place temporary dentures to provide function during this time.
When osseointegration is complete, Dr. Torrado will remove the healing caps and place the abutments. Impressions are then taken for the creation of your final restoration. Once your final prosthetic is complete, Dr. Torrado will attach it to your abutments. The result is a beautiful and functional smile.
Advantages of Dental Implants
The greatest advantage of dental implants is that they halt jawbone deterioration. They also offer unrivaled stability for denture wearers that makes it possible to chew any foods and speak with complete clarity without the risk of the denture shifting.
